Filtration system needed for Computer room unit

We installed a computer room unit in a building 6 years ago in which the building has an open cooling tower no closed loop. We balanced the water flow to what the unit called for (28 gpm) and all was good. We have serviced the unit since we installed it,and cleaned the strainer every time we come out. In the last year for reasons that are beyond our control, because we do not service the base building equipment or cooling tower, the strainer on the unit is becoming restricted frequently, about every two weeks. We are going to recheck the flow on the unit to make sure we are still getting the proper GPM for the unit. My question is does anyone know of a filtration system that can be installed in line (1.5" piping to unit) like a sand seperator or something like it, that may not become restricted as easily, and also warn the computer room operator that the flow is deceasing? What we have now is a standard brass NIBCO 1.5" inline strainer.Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks to all.

    You need to install a bag filter such as Rosedale Products: www.rosedaleproducts.com I would install a model NCO in 2 inch as the pressure drop is too great with a 1 1/2. You instal a pressure gauge before and after the filter. This is a common problem with cooling towers.

    Something amiss in the cooling tower circuit? Has anyone had the water tested to see what the cause is?

    Would a DirtCal or DirtMag work on your circuit?

    There are other, more expensive options (dual strainers with a PD alarm, TowerKlean, etc.) but it would be best to find out what the source is and address that.

    There might be a construction site nearby that is generating excessive dust. The cooling towers are obliged to be tested once a month during their operation. Since this law came into effect, we have installed a large number of bag filters. Every cooling tower and chiller replacement, has a spec for bag filters.
