Steam receiver leaking

I have a Weil-Mclain 300k btu steam boiler in a 3000 sq ft 110+year old house. They have a condensate receiver next to boiler (that spews out steam and hot water 50% of the time). I am looking for more information first of all to fully understand its use.
I'm assuming the spewing if from a bad trap, easy fix. But why couldn't I repair trap and remove steam receiver and install Hartford Loop?
Thanks

Pictures of the boiler, piping and the items you are having problems with would help a lot.0

What kind of piping system do you have? One-pipe or two-pipe? Based on what I currently know, you have a two-pipe if there is no Hartford Loop.
The condensate receiver's job is to bring back condensate to the boiler. There should be a check valve after the pump but before the boiler that ensures condensate isn't leaking back into the receiver causing it to short-cycle.
The sprewing is probably from bad traps. Get them fixed ASAP.

You'd have to have a pro look at your system to see if it's possible to do that. Many times it is, but you want to be sure.Lake_Michigan_steam said:But why couldn't I repair trap and remove steam receiver and install Hartford Loop?
