Gas fired steam boiler igniter question

I have an older American Boiler with six burners from a gas pipe. I am not sure if my electric igniter for the system is placed properly relative to the burners. Too close? It has been "woofing" on start up. See attached photo.

That doesn't look right. Looks like a cludge someone added on. Do you have a better focused pictures from different angles?0

It looks like you also have some soot dropping down on the left. Get someone out to clean the boiler and the pilot and all will be well.0
