Removing top plugs on...

85 year old steam radiators. Does anyone have an ultra successful method of doing this? I've got a bunch that we're converting for use with a hot water system. The tail pieces at the bottom came out pretty easy so we were able to get the new TRV's and union els installed without issue. We still have to remove a top plug on each one for the coin vent yet and it's going slower than I'd like. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
We've pressure tested a bunch of them and no leakers so far.

Don't they have a boss to drill out for the vent?

Might be easier to just drill and tap for the 1/8" vent

I haven't been there the last few days but don't remember seeing one? There are so many coats of paint on them. I'll be there tomorrow and double check. Thanks.

1/8"- 27 thread?? Drill size? The coin vents I usually use as replacements sure don't look like a tapered thread? Are they available in tapered or straight thread?
