Too high temp on boiler

Had to replace a pump (Bell and Gossett) on a 60 year old radiant heat system. Pump and motor look identical but seem to flow in the opposite direction according to the arrow on the housing( which seems strange to me.) . Hooked it all up with opposite flow, the only way it fits. Pump and boiler seem fine but no water circulation and the temp went up to 220 F (before I shut it down) while it always ran at 140 before. I assume there is a check valve blocking it, but cannot find it. Flipped the housing but I have to chop out a wall to move a water heater which is in the way with it flipped. Any advice please?
