I have an old HB Smith Series 34. 340-1 Mills water boiler. I believe it's 8 sections. Any ideas on what the heating capacity is? I can't find anything online. Thank you.

  • Is this for finding a replacement boiler? Have you done a heatloss? You never know whether the old boiler was properly sized for the building until you figure out exactly what you need.--NBC

Yep did a heat loss and everything. Customer just wants to know existing vs what I came up with.

I once looked at a disaster with a Smith Boiler with a red jacket. There was absolutely no name plate on it anywhere. No way to know what it was even, or how big or small it was. Maybe Smith sold a undercover line. I remember that it was 8 sections and the size of a Weil-Mclain 62 series.

The old 340 starts at 6 sections being the smallest and 14 sections being the largest. I am going to give you ratings for each size boiler as follows: sections/input mbh/net square ft of steam. Here we go:
    6/855/2130
    7/1020/2540
    8/1185/2950
    9/1350/3355
    10/1510/3750
    11/1662/4180
    12/1848/4620
    13/1980/5040
    14/2145/5480
