I have a customer with a atmospheric hot water boiler.....boiler is about 6 years old....system is a Taco venturi diverter tee system....this customer called me to help them save money on fuel(nat gas)....I have provided full outdoor reset on certain jobs but as a zone for example a bathroom or kitchen with radiant in floor heating.....using a iseries mixing valve for example but never on a whole system.....I just want some insight using FULL reset on this system without a tstat...i was thinking primary secondary piping....boiler protection valve and tekmar 256?....please correct me if I'm wrong....Thanks Paul s

If it is an atmospheric CI hot water gas boiler, and you put it on full and complete ODR, the really low temperatures can have a really nasty effect on the boiler. With that "I" series type 4-way valve, the valve becomes the Primary/Secondary connection and it has the ability to keep the boiler safely warm, and the system can run at 80 degrees if you want it to. But the valve will run the system in complete ODR mode, while protecting the boiler from condensing. Whether from oil or gas.

You must have some experience or understanding with them to even mention one.

i do have plenty of knowledge with the iseries valves ....i was actually thinking of using a tekmar 360 with a 4 way valve controlled by a "floating" actuator...that would work too ...i guess right?? thanks paul s

The 360 will give you more options than an iSeries-R, but if they're going to spend the money for an external controller, I'd probably suggest something more like a 402 (zone valves plus Tekmar stats and indoor feedback.)

I have brass 4-way motorized valves at competitive prices if you need them.

If you only want ODR on the low temp. side, let the thermostat run the valve and the secondary side. The "primary" side can be run at a higher temperature off the boiler to run an indirect. You can also run other zones off the primary and run them all with individual thermostats. You have to look at any ROI's.

    IMO.
