In Frank Gerety's monograph, "One Pipe Steam Heating," he states on page 1-3 that a Gorton #1 vent should be derated to 1.4 cfm at 2 oz. venting pressure. However, tables of vent ratings usually rate the #1 at 0.504 cfm at 2 oz. pressure. Any idea why this considerable difference? I suspect Mr. Gerety's main point is that steam mains are grossly under-vented. Is this correct? It's certainly a very important point for those of us involved in upgrading steam systems.

Also, any ideas on how to get a copy of Mr. Gerety's book, which I believe is out of print?
