    I am designing and sizing a new boiler for my home. This article isn't accurate enough to be the only factor, but it's a good place to start. I live in a cold climate and if I use their figures my boiler is way over sized. There are many other factors to consider and using a simple EDR per Sq Foot calculation is far too simplistic. The EDR of your home will vary based on things like steam or water, insulated piping, system design and so on. I would say start with this calculation, then get more precise with specific numbers and calculations.

    Never mind envelope construction you dont need all that.
