How critical is this new 410a flare

I have an older yellow jacket deluxe flare tool that I have been using for many years.

I can honestly say I have never had a leak in one of my flares. But I keep hearing that you must use the new deluxe flaring tool on the new mini splits.

I have even taken my older unit to the supplier and made a flare with mine and then with their newer unit. I am really hard pressed to see a difference in the two.

What is the difference between the Two and how critical is this? Who here has already purchased the new tool and can really attest to it working better?

    Flare

I've recently bought this model flaring tool after suffering through numerous cheap versions. It works very well, with absolutely no flaws so far. Does it make a better, 410A friendly flare? Yes, no, I don't know? A flare is a flare is a flare. As long as it is leak proof, it will work.

I agree it is an excellent tool, I just want to know what is the difference between this and the new one. Cant seem to get a clear answer on this.

    Flare

In the install manual they also require you to use refrigerant lubricant on all of the flair fittings. I just installed 5 heads on one project and 4 on another, used refrigerant lubricant on all flairs and didn't have on leak.

    New flare.

OK so what is the difference between the two flares or is it a bunch of smoke? Do both pieces of copper stick out of the flare block the same ? The angle is the same! Is there a "special " flare nut for that special flare? I wonder!

    Not Smoke & Mirrors

    Techman,

See the "Flare Info PDF" above.  Not smoke & mirrors.  We learned the hard way!
