side arm heat-x advantages and disadvantages

are there any disadvantages to installing a side arm heat exchanger on an existing electric water heater,to be connected from the primary loop of a cgi ng boiler currently feeding 2 air handlers.

Do you mean
Have a plate exchanger pre-heat the water before it goes into the water heater?
Then .... No down side that I can see...
You likely wouldn't even need the elec. heater to be on if it were piped right...
