Any way a digital Honeywell can malfunction & change it's own setpoint?

The Honeywell RTH111 thermostat in a tenant's apartment keeps mysteriously changing it's setpoint: 2 days ago 55 deg, today 40. I just put a box around it, but they swear up & down neither they nor their kids touched it. I presume their small kids are no more trustworthy than most, but is it at all possible it's a malfunction, say if the pins weren't seated all the way in?

    I'd say yes

    Changes in power can cause problems with electronics. Blips, surges and power failures can cause programmable controllers to change their settings.

    I don't know about the thermostat, but if you were my landlord and kept my heat at 55 degrees, I would move!

    The setpoint is 70!

    Sorry if I was unclear. But in fact, I have tenants who apparently have never paid a heat bill in their lives, One woman stands there in a 70 deg room wearing short and a tank top complaining of the cold. When I mention she should put some clothes on, she says "that's ****!" The last owner reported spending $12k per yr heating this 3500 sq ft 4 unit.
