Tips to repair Car Air Conditioners

Hello Guys,

1. Determine exactly what is wrong with the air conditioner.

2. Use the vacuum cleaner with the crevice attachment to clean out the vents on the inside of the car, located between the windshield and the hood of the car. Also clean any vents that lead from the air conditioner itself to the car under the hood.

3. Use the screwdriver and wrench to remove any vent covers, air filters or other removable parts. Clean them thoroughly and re-install them.

4. Replace any fuses that may have blown. Refer to your owner’s manual for the type of fuses to buy and where the receptacles for them are located.

5. Use the air-conditioner kit to replace any parts that may be broken or simply worn out. Follow the directions that come with the kit.

6. Determine if the air conditioner has enough coolant, using a testing sensor. If the coolant is low or has all leaked out, a professional will have to replace the coolant for you.

7. Open the hood. Cover any parts that need to stay dry with aluminum foil or plastic. Give everything a good spraying off with a water hose. This will loosen any dirt or debris that may be blocking vents or outlets, which may be causing the air conditioner to malfunction or operate poorly.

Thanks

Steve Holmes

    How about this?

If the A/C in your car does not work, take it to the auto shop........Is that what you are trying to say?

    Not So:

I've seen guys in the parking lot of Auto Zone with a can of that ready charge stuff who have lost their auto AC, and fill it right there on the spot. You just follow the instructions and give it a squirt. Then, you can drive around in comfort until enough leaks back out that you need another squirt.

I used to say about my old Auto Shop teacher in High School. He said, "You can't buy a mechanic in a can". Obviously, Mr. Wilson has been proven wrong. Why would you spend your money on some auto AC shop that wants to just rip you off with unnecessary repairs. When you can go to Auto Zone and buy a Mechanic In A Can? Who needs all those useless and expensive gauges anyway. Then, there is that stupid and expensive vacuum pump they always want to connect to the system. They claim it is to get ant water moisture that might have gotten into the system. BS. The system is tight. Besides, they just want your money.

    Get a life.

And if it is an old :Iron" of a car, and the AC doesn't work, they'll try to sell you a new compressor because they try to claim something like that R-10 (or is it that R-22) refrigerant isn't compatible with the new R-410 so you need to change the compressor.

What pirates. Someone is always trying to pick your pockets clean.

    HEY

I work part time at Auto Zone and am an ASE certified parts specialist.  I ALWAYS recommend that anyone that is not familiar with automotive A/C systems take it to a shop to repair the system properly.  You really should think twice before you post some thing.
