in Domestic Hot Water
should their be a timer in a gas HW  tank recirculating pump . office /med  building no one needs on week ends and weekend   thanks

    It is said that they save a lot of money.

    My experience is that it is true, like clock thermostats on fast emitting heating units like copper baseboard or fan coil units.

    If there is a municipal sewer tax based on metered water consumption, you pay to heat it while you wait for the water to get hot, and you pay to get rid of it. With timed re-cird, you don't pay to heat it because it isn't being wasted and thrown away while waiting for it to get hot.

    It's a no-brainer application.

    Would increasing the insulation on the storage tank help?

    The trouble with timers is in forgetting to reprogram them for daylight savings time, and rescheduling of building activities.

    If you turn off the hot water, how long will it take to cool down to the legionella set point?, and then how long to recover the normal operating temperature?--NBC

    I prefer occupancy-based controls of residential recirc pumps, but existing commercial buildings can get rather complex.  If you do use a timer, you might try one that's sunrise/sunset aware, e.g. http://www.aubetech.com/search/index.php?recherche=Switches&recherche2=5
