Air Conditioner just blowing cool air, not cold

The central air conditioner was blowing cool air but not Cold air. It is a R22 system the outside temp was 82 degrees we put on the gauges and had readings of around 63 psig on the low side and only around 160psig on the high side. The air filter was clean with good air flow so we figured it was a little low on refrigerant. We put in some refrigerant the low side came up to around 70psig but the high side only came up to around 185psig. I am thinking I may have a bad TXV or a compresser going bad. What do you think. Thank You Mike.

    Need more info

Need more info,.... wb.s/h.s/c,mod ser etc.....
  • Definitely need more information

As was mentioned, you definitely need to have more information. For example:

The only way to determine if the TXV is going bad is to establish that the valve is not maintaining the desired superheat. Without the evaporator outlet temperature, there is no way of knowing this.

If the compressor is "going bad" it is likely that there would be an internal leak. This would result in high suction pressure and low head pressure.

Please provide the following so we can help you:

    Outdoor ambient temperature

Indoor air temp (dry bulb and wet bulb)

    Evaporator saturation temperature

    Evaporator outlet temperature

    Condenser saturation temperature

    Condenser outlet temperature

The model of the unit would also help
