Who to call to "tune" a 100 year old 3 pass boiler

A while back I had posted some questions about a friends boiler.  Its a 3 pass coal boiler which was converted to oil a long time ago.

I believe steamhead had recommended having someone come out and tune the boiler using bricks to slow the air passing through the boiler.

Who would we call for this?  I'm assuming the average HVAC or oil guy won't have any idea what to do with it?  We are in north western NJ near Hackettstown.

    You have to find someone

who is familiar with Dead Men's Tricks like that, and can do it right. I remember there was a guy in Jersey who did, but haven't heard from him for a while. Let me see if I can find him.

    tuned?

    Steamhead,

Looked inside his boiler today and found several large finned hunks of iron with handles on the ends.  One on each side and two down the center row.  They take up a good 60% of the passages and almost the whole length.

Is this the same kind of tuning you had mentioned?

I also noticed there is some kind of tear drop shaped fiberglass? insert which the oil burner fires into.

    Yup

someone knew what they were doing with those baffles.

The "fiberglass" is actually Kaowool, which heats up more quickly than the old-style firebrick.

Looks like this boiler is already set up well. Was there much soot, etc. in the flue passages?

    soot

Somehow no soot at all, no black anywhere. Some large flakes here and there but that was all.

Thanks for the help steamhead, I appreciate it.
