Gravity conversion to constant circulation w/ odr?

Hello all,

I'm looking for any documentation to support my advice to a friend who's being advised by his oil company to install an aquastat on his heat-only boiler to prevent condensing via a high Delta-T.

I've had great success using outdoor reset and circulation below warm weather shutdown.

I'd appreciate any help finding something to support the practice.

Thanks,

JohnNY

    That would be quite wasteful

you really don't need to keep the boiler at temp to keep it from condensing. An injection loop will do it, if used with a reset control that can monitor the boiler's return temperature. Also, Taco makes an i-series valve that has reset built in and can do the same thing. I haven't tried one, but icesailor has had good results with them, so they're worth looking into. Both these setups would only run the burner on a call for heat.

    That sounds like something...

I'll take a look at Taco. I know they've got a lot of new stuff these days.

    Thanks, Frank.

    Return water temp.

The "I" series has an on-board DIP switch that keeps the return water at 120 degrees for gas or 140 degrees for oil. The sensors come with the valve. If the water returning back to the boiler in the primary loop goes below 140 degrees, the valve closes the bypass and sends no system water back to the primary loop.
