Vent on ceiling radiator

We're sprucing up the basement a bit to act as a gameroom, and I'd like to add a couple of small wall radiators to keep the space warmer. This'll mean mounting them on the (basement) ceiling. This is one pipe steam. Any thoughts on the best orientation/placement for the radiator vent? Mounted this way, you essentially have a 3" tall radiator, so I'm guessing the rule of thumb of mounting the vent 1/3 up from the bottom of the radiator may not apply, exactly.

Thanks,

Patrick

    ...

Depending on the radiator and style of sections, you'll have to be very particular about the radiator's pitch. A wall radiator is designed to work one way. As for the vent, I would mount it on the opposite corner of the supply valve.

The radiator should have a slight pitch

down toward the supply valve. So you won't be hanging it quite level.

The air vent should go on the side opposite the valve, about halfway between the lowest and highest areas of the rad. This will keep condensate away from it.

Be sure the rad is anchored firmly into the overhead joists, using heavy lag screws. My partner Gordo came up with a way to support the rad and raise it into position. Go here:

    Cool-

Looks nice and sturdy- I'll definitely steal that idea.

And what was the verdict? Was the added heat worth the effort?

    Thanks,

    Ceiling Radiator

You've probably already thought of this, but be careful in mounting that wall rad on the ceiling. It is not made for that. Be sure you can accomodate the condensation, as well as take care of venting.

    I think it was

the best part was the system heated evenly and didn't bang when we were done.
