in Strictly Steam
I have been asked to quote to install 3 oil steam boilers to replace an older single unit for the purposes of zoning and reserve heat in our 1912 village hall. What would be piping arrangements using a common return, ( condensate reciever/pump ).

    What brand of boiler are you looking at using

    if you are zoning with the boilers then I would separate the returns too.

    Have you already done

    a survey of your radiation? It may be the new boiler will be far smaller than they expect it to be.

    zoning a steam boiler

    one way that could be done with one boiler, would be with the steam section handling the main area, and a hot-water loop off the boiler handling the less used area, properly controlled.

    usually this sort of steam-zoning plan is hatched as a result of high fuel bills--not as a result of steam being so inefficient, but because of lack of maintenance making the system burn more fuel. zoning a steam system has some hurdles to overcome.

    if this steam system is properly surveyed for edr, and condition, and corrected, i imagine the bills will be less.--nbc
