in Oil Heating
if you have outside above ground oil tank in a shed and oil line runs in ground from shed into slab home closet with a sleeveed line,wouldnt you want to protect your line with osv for extra protection because its in the earth. and can you put osv on outside tank that is enclosed without any problems. suntec says 0 degrees for operation. and can it be ok with filter inside.even though they recomend it. usually  filters inside on outside tank set ups.  thx

    How long is the oil line run?

    OSV's are intended to be used when the tank is above the burner.  There are cases where there isn't enough pressure created by the weight of the oil to over come the head of the line if the tank and burner are on the same level.  The new mini pumps aren't like the old Websters.  They don't pump like they used to.



    Here in Maine, we do not put OSV's on outside oil tanks.  Even with K1 they are problematic.  If the outside tank would be above the burner, we recommend looking for a different solution.

    You need the filter before the OSV. It not only keeps the valve as clean as possible to keep it functioning as it should, but also you will have a problem keeping it running due to air. There should never be a filter after an OSV, pump strainer excluded. I have some tanks with OSV's as you describe. They are in weather tight sheds with Webster OSV's, and for many years no problem. They are labeled protect from freezing. That can be interpreted in more ways than one
