any good websites for steam conversions.How do you convert pounds of steam per hour to btu/hr.?

    Steam is not usually

    measured for home heating in pounds per hour. It is measured in square footage of radiation warmed per hour. That is 240 btu per square foot.
    Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

    Pounds of steam to BTUs per Hour

    At atmospheric pressure at sea level, steam at 212F has a useful heat content of 970.3 BTUH per lb.   At 2 psi, this drops to about 965 BTUH per lb. You will note that the higher the pressure, the lower the available capacity.



    So in very rough terms, each pound of steam per hour will heat about 4 SF of radiation.



    The available capacity we are talking about is the heat of evaporation, what is given up by the change of state from vapor to liquid. The actual capacity is higher because there is still a bit of hot water left after the process, but use the evaporation number.



    But as Charlie noted, steam heating is best quantified in square feet of radiation to be heated.
