#2 oil question

An incredibly rudimentary question having to deal with safety: can #2 fuel oil burn without being atomized? I am certainly not about to try it to find out, but am curious and am wondering if it is ok to fill up the tank at the end of the season if it is cheap then or if that might be dangerous to have a full tank in the basement. Any help would be appreciated.

    Combustible

Fuel oil is a combustible , meaning it has a higher flash point then a flammable.... Flash point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid can form an ignitable mixture in air near the surface of the liquid. . Flash point for fuel oil is 126*-204* Gasoline-45* ...So it is safe in a proper container under normal conditions ...

Todays fuel oil will start to break down after 6 months storage ... So don't over stock on fuel oil ...
I have enough experience to know , that I dont know it all
