Is it possible to use old cast iron single tube steam radiators in a two tube steam heating system (either to replace defective radiators within the system or to expand it)? ; If it is possible to do so, what modifications must be done in order to do so?

Yes I have a 2-pipe system, and in the attic we have a 1 pipe rad. You have to make sure that that 1 pipe rad has an air vent on it. Also, for an addition I used a 1 pipe rad and removed the plug on the side that was opposite the valve, put a reducer in the large tapping, and installed a trap making it a two pipe rad. It was no picnic to remove the plug, but with enough persuasion it came out. There was an error rendering this rich post.
