High startup amperage on burner motors..

Ive been a service tech for a little over five years now and have a question about startup amperage on burner motors.  One tech I work with whos been working in the feild for 20 years says that high startup amps on the burner motor will decrease the power of the ignitor and cause the burner to go off on reset.  I've asked others about this, some agree and some say one has nothing to do with the other.

If some of you could share what you know about this I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

    Some truth to that.

    We have to differentiate between ignitor and transformer.  A transformer will not ignite fuel oil below 9000 volts.  So a 10k transformer with a drop to 109  in supply voltage is around the 9 k output.  I have seen it in older houses with small services (100 amp or less).  It is not so much the amperage draw, but the voltage drop caused.  As voltage increases amperage decreases.



    This is not a problem with 14k ignitors.  At least I have not seen it be a problem.
