storing oil

in Oil Heating
At one property I have two tanks,..I have had oil in one for 3 -4 years w/o using it,..I can switch lines to use one or the other but its not all that easy so I haven't.



Question: Is this OK to use and/or should I put an additive and what type to run this tank down.



In the future can I put some additive to store it, (a few years) ,..I understand the armed forces store oil w/o rotating same for years. Anyone know what they do/use?

    I've burnt some up

    that was much older than that. Throw an additive in and enjoy the warmth

    Depending on the environment it can go bad. Sta-bal makes an additive for fuel oil. If it's been sitting inside or underground out of the sun it will last much longer with out going bad as long as it doesn't get water or moisture in it. If It were me I would treat it so as not to have burner problems. I'm a big fan of Super Heat, but there are many other good products out there. Keep it out of the sun and it will keep for quite some time. I saw above ground outdoor tanks go bad and OH! the problems the bad fuel caused.
