Dual fuel DHW control method

I have an indirect DHW, that I had to take out of service temporaily. Hooked up an electric as the replacement. We have PV solar so the cost to run the electric DHW was not much. So that got me to thinking of running them both. The electric would be used during the day and the Indirect in the morning and at night.

What I cannot figure out is how to control the electric DHW so that it only runs during the day. Any ideas? Would like to keep it as simple as posssible. I am thinking a timer for the electric DHW but do not know if such a thing is available.

Tstats ?

Would never have thought of using a tstat.

Make sure the voltage matches

As in line voltage t stat for a line voltage load or better yet use a time switch like they use for outdoor lights. If the you use a sensor like for parking lot lights and have it go to a relay it can shut off the electric tank. Pipe the tanks in series so the electric feeds into the other tank.
