I've mentioned a job where we re-worked a badly-done Beckett oil burner upgrade to an older American-Standard A-55 on a Webster Vapor system. Well, the preliminary numbers are in. The customer e-mailed the following:

"Hi Frank and Gordon,  I finally computed my final oil savings for 2008/2009 and 2009/2010.  Here is the information -- which I double checked with the oil company.

2008/2009 - I used 1.990.3 gallons for a cost of $5,274.63.

This year (2009-2010), after your repairs, I used:

1,308.7 gallons for a cost of $3,503.56.

Therefore, I saved $1,771,.07 this year!

I believe your repairs had a major part in the savings.  I am not sure about the cost of oil or the type of winter, because I haven't taken all that into consideration.  I also lowered the thermostat this past year.  But saving one third of the cost is very significant to me."

For the record, the savings was just over half of what this lady spent with us over the past winter. By this time next year she'll be ahead.

We haven't worked out the degree-day totals, but this past winter was definitely colder than the previous one. Also note that we haven't even started working on the Webster system itself- just the boiler.

Would we need Gulf Coast oil rigs if we could save this much in every building?

    nice....

always good to hear sucess stories ... especially where most would say that the steam systems are "unfixable" and to rip it out.
