bad transformer ?

why does  the motor stop when I lift open the transformer on the burner.

    bad transformer?

    Is it actually that the motor wont start until you close the transformer?  If the cad cell sees light it will not let the burner start, once you close the transformer the cad cell is in darkness and the burner will start.
