Venting Steam Boiler through side of house

I am renovating an 1870's brick home with an oil fired steam boiler venting through an unlined chimney. I wanted to line the chimney for safety reasons but have been told by an experienced chimney mason that an 8" liner cannot be placed in the existing chimney. I am prepared to replace the 50+ year old existing boiler with a modern gas or oil steam boiler but I can't figure out how to exhaust the burner short of rebuilding the entire chimney. Is there anyway to exhaust a steam boiler out the sidewall of a basement? If so is this method safe and reliable?

size on new boiler

I suspect that the new boiler will have a smaller vent size and would easily go up through the existing chimney.

steam boiler venting

I tend to go with the other posts and tell you to check every way possible to vent into the chimney, but you can side wall vent almost any boiler with a power venter as long as you can meet clearances required by code and the manufacturer.
