Stress cracks in the collar maybe? Was the screw still screwed in place when it broke? I never freeze without safety glasses. Let us know what you find out.

Anyone ever have any issues ....
using a Cold Shot pipe freeze kit?
We have a relatively new set, probably one year old. Used it about a dozen times so far, always successful.
Yesterday I was using it on a piece of 1" copper, had just got it frozen and cut out a section and there was a load bang! and one of the collars flew off and hit me in the chest. (still got the bruise to prove it)
I think this was the first time this size collar was used. I went over the instructions first, as I only use this a couple of times a year, and was using everything correctly.
I plan to contact General Spring (manufacturer) and replace the collar, which was broken in two places, but now I'm a little nervous about it.
Just glad it didn't hit me in the face!
