Power Flame high pitched whine
Have a Power Flame unit mounted on my steam boiler & the thing creates a deafening high, pitched whine when it is firing. I need to wear ear protection when i enter the boiler room. Is ther any way to reduce/eliminate this noise? I've tried partially shutting the gas supply valve (slightly) whihc lowers the whine but then I notice the flame in the chamber goes slightly red/orange and appears to not heat as well. Thanks for looking & offering suggestions.0 -
Has this unit been installed for a while or is this a new installation?
I would start with a combustion test to make sure that combustion is ok and make sure the boiler fireside is clean.
All Powerflames are not equal you made need burner modifications to fire a particular boiler. What is the boiler make and model??

DO NOT MAKE ADJUSTEMENTS W/ OUT ANALYZER
You will cause a dangerous condition by doing that!!!!!!! Now back to the noise. Most power flames are high RPM motors which a quite noisy. You may be able to adjust burner to be quieter but will always be fairly noisy. The quiter ones are Webster, Gordon Piatt etc. Good luck, Tim0 -
I once
worked on a power burner that was incredibly noisy. I took a piece of pipe large enough to connect to the air intake, put a 1 ft piece of pipe on the inlet and it quieted right down. Don't know if this will help but, I was surprised how effective it was.0 -
Burner Whine
A possible cause is your gas line size is too small. If you used a gas flex it is undoubtedly the problem. What is your gas input in cubic feet?0
