    buffer tank question

    I am installing a Knight 285 on a residential job, the house load is about 105. The hot water demand is huge, 120 indirect w/ a 120 storage. Hence the big boiler.

    I have I have 8 zones three are small. I have never had to install a BT but I am seeing the potential for short cycling here for sure.

    My question is could I size a tank for the smaller zones, that would just act as a hydraulic separator on the larger zones? I don't necessarily want to buffer the whole load, if that makes any sense.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    I am picturing a 20 gal or so four port tank acting as the closely spaced tees between the boiler and the system, {The indirect will be fed prior}. The extra temp sensor at the tank controlling the boiler?

    We have used the boiler buddy with the Knight

    and I am pretty happy with it.

    I piped my buffer as a parallel loop off the the supply so that on a call for DHW and the P1 boiler pump drops off, the P2 DHW pump engages, but the P3 system pump contacts remain engaged as long as there is a call for heat. My thinking is that I have a fully charged tank of reset water to feed to each zone as needed.

    I'll email you the PDF version that also shows the wiring.

    I have used both Bock and Boiler Buddy. I really like Boiler Buddy. Port hole numbers,size, and location are great. I don't know or have not been told why Bock off-sets theirs like they do but it is a good product, I just prefer BB
