tempering return temps

This is a good tutorial on boiler bypass protection by B&G. One trick is using the unused port on the weighted flow check for the bypass loop connection. A step above would be to use a Danfoss Thermic Valve in a bypass loop to assure the return temp is never under 140 degrees minimum.

    in a pretty standard, single pump, hot water system:
    i was thinking -(and i'm not a pro)- a system's return temp could be adjusted simply by piping a small line with a full port ball valve, after the pump, directly into the return (with sufficient space to mix in with the return water) - then the return temp could be adjusted... in a constant way... to step closer to the desired delta t of 20 degrees - by throttling the ball valve. are there too many variables for a simple tempering bypass like this to work? a search provided me with mostly radiant floor results.
    I'm not sure if its idiotic or not, it just occurred to me

    This is how good ideas come about....

    I favor the automatic approach (Danfoss thermic valve) but your open-minded thinking came to an excellent solution, rather good also that you saw a potential problem...

    Not a pro but maybe one in training... or a ringer :)
