boiler room heat

You had better check your codes before doing what you suggest. Mechanical codes say if you exhaust from a boiler room mechanically you must make up mechanically. Also fire dampers would be required and you open yourself to a lot of liability, let alone the noise, smell and possible fire and smoke you could send into living spaces if something went wrong in the boiler room. I would not consider doing this !!!

Can anyone see a problem in pulling warm air from a large boiler room with a small fan in can type devise set with a t-stat and having it heat a common area hall in a 4-plex? Hall has no heat, and boiler room has vents to outside air and PLEANTY of make up & combustion air for the unit. Boiler room is super warm...well over 80*, and the hall would sure like the heat, especially if it is incidential to the boiler running.

I'll wager there is a load of uninsulated pipe inthat boiler room throwing off the heat. Insulate them well and run a little zone of baseboard in the hallway. I agree strongly that there are big downsides to blowing potentially very bad air into a public space.0 -
Point well taken. Warm air is very tempting, but not at the risk of the humans. A small BB loop is likely the best bet...thanks for the reality check...
