a wet return of a given size will move about twice the capacity of a dry return of the same size, but as Jim said, you have to know what the load is in the first place.
If it works now "sort of" then performance should improve. However the path in total only has the capacity of the most sluggish section. In other words, if half is left as a dry return, that will define the return rate.
Wet returns are prone to clogging over time given that they are the low points of a system where things tend to settle.

Dry returns to wet - does pipe size need to increase
can a 1 1/4" dry return be dropped to the floor and properly function as a 1 1/4" wet return? Does it need to be larger such as 1 1/2"?0 -
