Was thinking of putting a pellet stove in the basement to heat it up and also get some radiant heat in the floors above. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on these?

basement stoves
The most challenging place to get a solid fuel stove to vent correctly is the basement, the basement is often a low pressure area in most houses. I would look for a really experienced installer and plan on paying a lot for a legal vent system. Also, ask you insurance person if it will affect your homeowners rates.0 -
venting
Pellet stoves are power vented. The only time you would need a tall chimney would be in the case of power failure. Otherwise, it is a great choice for a basement. I'm partial to Quadrafire and Harman but I haven't found any really bad brands out there and I service them every day. Main thing is to keep it clean. Yes, have a pro guide you in the installation.
