I am looking into installing a new mod/con (50k range). The munchkin or the contender would fit the bill. My question is, has the contender been debugged enough or do I stick with the proven munchkin? Thanks for any info in advance.

The Contender
has addressed a lot of the small "issues" that the Munchkin had.
My nonly question would be the composite chassis. However the company that manufactures that block has a lot of them in various BTU sizes in nthe field.
As always time will tell.
Knock on wood, I did not have to visit any of my Munchkin installes this winter. All the problems I have had were start up or first year bugs. Fingers crossed

Are you saying the new model is basicly the same as the munchkin? If not, what's the difference between the two? I have no problem choosing the munchkin, I just thought HTP had improved or come out with something new. Just to stray from the subject, would I be giving up alot of efficiency if I chose a gb142(80k)? My heat loss is 35k to 40k depending on how much I insulate. I'm also installing a 40 gal. indirect. I am leaning toward the gb, but don't want to stray that far from my heat loss.0 -
Principle Difference Is
ASME rating. The Contender heat exchanger does not fall under ASME and is not stamped, is my understanding. Lower price point because of that; thus this would be limited to the residential market in most jurisdictions.0
