The OWF outdoor wood furnace is generally a open un-pressurized tank style, Basically a drum in a drum with a camp fire inside. Central, Woodmaster Hardy, Heatmor, HeatSource, Taylor are a few of dozen's of brands.

A few manufactures offer pressurized versions, Aquatherm, and Royall. Both of these are available as unsheltered version also. Royall is one of the few I have found with ASME if that matters in your area.

All the above run 28- 45% efficiencies.

I prefer gasification boilers that recycle the flue gas and extract addition energy, similar to a condensing boiler concept. These have tested in the mid to high 80% efficiencies. Tarm is the best know name around here.

I also install several brands of Euro gasification units sold at www.newhorizcorp.com. Gasification boilers have smaller fire boxes and lower water content and almost require a buffer tank to smooth out the operation.

I believe Greenwood out of Washington is a US built, and another new gasification in Maine somewhere.

It takes a bit of piping and $$'s to install one correctly. To tie it in with a gas or oil fired back up gets more involved also.

I don't believe Burnham offers the Woodlander anymore?
