was the lead female clown in the "Red" tour or Ringling for about five years. They have two different tours in case you're wondering (also Blue).
We went to see her 15 years ago, and took several of our nieces and nephews - we didn't have any kids yet.
At the first intermission, I met her and she said to stay seated after the second intermission (it was like a hockey game with "3 periods").
As the crowds were in the aisles to go to the bathroom and get some stuff, here comes Peggy; full clown dress and shoes the size of small canoes, climbing over the seats because the aisles were full. She did a great 5 minute show...until all the kids around us started either jumping all over her (older ones), or screaming because they were scared (4 and under)...she was right in front of us. I couldn't tell it was her until she talked to me and gave the goofiest goodbye kiss.
Classic...my 22 year old nephew, from the USNA, still cherishes that afternoon!
Glad you had a great time Shaun.

Money well spent !!!
This will be one to remember for a long time. Seeing my son yelling, screaming, and having a great time was priceless. Thanks for the that tip Scott, they sure are proud of everything the circus sells. But it was worth it to me.
Thanks

First time for BOTH of you?
Fantastic, Shaun, for you and your son.
Personally I remember being that age and being terrified at and for this woman acrobat being drawn up by her hair and of course the clowns were pretty scary. My parents just did not understand... But the elephants "dropping stuff"- now that was hysterical to my three-year-old mind....0 -
Who was yelling and screaming?
I am pretty sure that it was Shaun, not little Juan, who was doing all the yelling and screaming. He still has his clown face paint on from last night!0 -
its cash to you
and a memorie to them.
Glad you had a great time.
Your now a member in good standing of the Wallie Good Dad Club.

I dreamed of taking Kelly,
our oldest daughter, to the circus for years, even before she was born, I dreamed of this. When we finally did, she took one look at the clowns, got hysterical, and we had to leave before the popcorn even got cold.
Kids. ;-)Retired and loving it.0 -
Exactly Dan!
Clowns terrify some kids, not just me.
Poor Kelly. Must have been a trauma even at age 19.

My stepson
was 3 years old went to a parade and Smokey The Bear came up to give him some candy and he started crying the guy inside knowing Jeff and vise versa took the head off but Jeff would have no part of him whenever he saw this guy for years to come he would say I just don't like that guy, even as a teenager.0 -
Cirque du solei
I went with our three year old daughter for her first time, two weeks ago.
A class act, there are no animals. Just people., clowns and acrobats.
She enjoyed all three hours, even getting caught in the rain. She started to take off her sneakers, so she could jump on stage with the clowns!
Tix are pricey though, and I bought ours back in January.
Enjoy, they're only three once in their lives.

John Wayne Gacy (The man who loved boys)........................
was an avid, regularly-performing clown...he just loved kids! On a lighter note. I remember seeing Ringling Bros when I was about 8 at Nassau Coliseum. I remember riding the escalator and this jerky kid kept kicking his foot in to the gap between the step and the sides. My pop warned him and he ignored it. 3 seconds later his foot was being pulled in to the meat grinder. My father grabbed him and yanked real fast saving his foot and probably hi life. The sneaker disappeared in to the the machine. We had a great time anyway. I remember the double ice cream cones with fudge and peanuts. Mad Dog

I wonder why...
Yes, some kids are terrified of clowns. In the past, I've played Santa Claus and the Cookie Monster for the kids at various venues, and have found that most little kids aren't even phased by the huge, blue, bulging-eyed eat-everything-in sight Cookie Monster, who is not even remotely human looking, but are reduced to screaming infant psychos by the meer sight of Santa Claus. Because they see Sesame Street every day & Santa once a year? One of the great mysteries of childhood!0
