The feet of head loss for a cast iron baseboard is very low compared to the pipe and fittings.

I'm trying to establish a true head loss on my system so I can put the right pump in. Some of the system components' paperwork gives cv values. Anybody know how I can convert this number to head loss in feet of head?
    Thanks.

    head loss

head loss in feet = (1.52*gpm/Cv)^2

    conversion

the CV value is the gpm thru the device that will create a 1 psi pressure drop. example, 4.5 cv means that at 4.5 gpm you will have a 1 psi drop thru the device. 1 psi = 2.31 ft/head. marc

Does that formula work for cast iron baseboard?

A manufacturer's chart lists an 8' CIBB at 2.68 pressure drop in inches of water at 2000 lbs/hr(4 GPM) flow rate. I was trying to convert to feet of head. Is 2.68 X 2.31 = 6.19 A correct method for figuring the feet of head?

    loss

Just divide 2.68 by 12 to get 0.22 ft of head

B&G has a very nice "System Syser Calculator" that can be obtained from their web sight. I think you would love it. Would answer all of your questions.
