Pipe Size

in THE MAIN WALL
is measured by diameter, correct? So if one of my risers measures 7 and 5/8 inches around, then the diameter is 2.42 inches, which is what size pipe? That doesn't sound even, so I guess I've got to take into account the thickness of the pipe?

    Pipe size

    Black steel steam pipe, schedule 40, is measured by inside diameter. A two inch pipe then will measure a bit more than 2 1/4 inches diameter on the outside. Sounds like you have two inch risers.

    Correct measurement?

    2" steel pipe has an outside diameter of 2.375' or 2 3/8".
    2 1/2 has an OD of 2.875" or 2 7/8". Not sure what you have but probably 2".

    I guess we need to add for one or more layers of paint, but they are definately larger around than 2 3/8 inches, but not quite 2.875 inches round.

    BTW, is there a chart that will give the type of info you've listed above?
