Hi Tim! Depending on a few factors the comp will live ,depending on a few factors the comp will die!

    What are the perils one might encounter if you used a low temperature compressor on medium temperature application or a medium temperature compressor on low temp service.

    Well

    For starters, you will likely need to add an evaporator pressure regulator to maintain the desired evaporator pressure and temperature.

    Since the purpose of the EPR or IPR is to hold refrigerant back in the evaporator, the amount of suction gas will be reduced and your compressor may very well overheat.

    Low temperature compressors operate with higher compression ratios and will therefore be less efficient.

    Bottom line... try to use the correct comrpessor for your particular application.
