Where do I start insulating?

Insulate as much piping as you can reasonably access.

    I need to insulate my steam pipes in the cellar. I have a one pipe system and I'm wondering how much of my cellar pipes do I insulate? Do I wrap the risers and headers just outside the boiler (i think that's what they're called)? Or just the steam supply mains? I just finished Dan's book "We got steam heat" and this is the first project I want to tackle.

    Where do I start insulating?

    I just finished reading Dan's book and insulating was my first project as well. What a difference this has made. First off, my basement is not the hottest area in the house. The heat is reaching the furthest radiators much quicker than they used to.

    Good luck with the project.
