f&t v bucket trap whats better

on a steam boiler what is better to use as a trap to prevent flooding of the boiler

    If you mean a surface skimmer

    type arrangement,(where two or more boilers were piped in parallel to a common header for example), I always specified an F&T on each. Usage was typically intermittent and pressures were low. As you know, F&T's respond to both temperature and volume.

    If there is a reason to use an inverted bucket trap, I do not know what it would be. They only respond to volume and work best under a constant load, not intemittent. May be fine, I just never did it nor thought about it.

    Bucket traps are useful,

    if you need to lift the condensate slightly as they are N.O., but they may lose their "prime" if not sized correctly.
    F&T traps are N.C. which could cause the anvil chorus if conditions are right.
