    2 ways...

    Plan A; You could cut and thread the pipe exiting the radiator to receive a TRV body.

    Or, Plan B; you could pull the stem assembly and send it to Tunstall and have them make an insert that would replace the stem assembly, assuming it is a rising stem type of assembly. If it isn't (orange can style cylinder shut off), revert to plan A :-)

    Can't say as I have ever seen one of those in my travels.

    I agree with ME

    (Of course one does tend to agree with oneself...) but cutting in a straight pattern valve OR, if you can access the feeding piping at the floor below, especially if a basement, a TRV with remote bulb in the space, shielded below the radiator, would be my first choice. It will preserve the installation's integrity.

    BTW: I do have some photos of similar radiators from a client friends's 1890's house which I mean to post to see if anyone has seen such. They are similar in that the tappings are so integral with the castings, the way yours is. I will have to get those up- thanks for reminding me.
