operated with manufactured gas which had a BTU content of about 500 BTU's per cubic foot. They also worked on very low gas pressure which is probably why it keeps blowing out the pressure needs to be reduced before the burner.

    I put a great old gas light in today. It is a Colt (yes, the gun maker) made in mid-late 1800's, never used. It has an old style bunsen burner type burner that is a ceramic V with 2 holes pointing in to the V and holes on the sides of the V for primary air. Problem is that if barely turned on, there is a small, steady flame. If turned up, it immeadiatly blows out from too much gas pressure. Very little light for the size of fixture. Anyone ever play around with one of these? Was the caloric value of gas higher then?
