Using B vent as a chase

in THE MAIN WALL
today that wants a mod con boiler and indirect. Boiler room is in the middle of the house with no way out but the existing 10 inch B vent that will be orphaned once the cast iron boiler and water heaters are gone. On the roof there is a domed rain cap as usual. How can I change the top to accomodate a 3" pvc flu pipe and intake? I'm used to using a masonry chimney but have never used a B vent Chimney. Thanks for any input. WW

    Hi Wayne

    I posted this a while back but it's due for a reprise I suppose. 10" served a boiler and pool heater. Replaced with a condensing Knight so "B" vent was orphaned. Even though the job had a roofing contractor involved I saw no reason to make any changes. A little tin work at the top and some silicone sealant was all it took. The brown paint was just a bonus. I've even taken to painting my PVC roof penetrations with "copper spray" on my copper gutter/trim jobs.

    So you made a cap for the top and sealed around the pipe with silicone? It looks like it belongs. WW
