Heck, I'm actually a Professional Engineer (mechanical) and I'm coming to you guys for guidance . . . I worked my way through college doing industrial maintenance and machining back in the '70s. . . and as a result, I still don't trust engineers . . . .

Has anyone run into issues requiring "Stamped and Sealed Plans" for hvac work in their areas? The State of Maine now has a law requiring this for any hvac work over 200,000 btu/h, 5 ton a/c or more than one heating, ventillating or air conditioning unit. Seems a little excessive to me.
Just curious how things are handled in other parts of the country.0 -

Anything over 30,000 cubic feet and or 3-family dwellings or smaller is one standard.
This is to allow contractors and smaller practitioners to do minor design work to install their systems.
Commercial projects usually require a stamp regardless.
Some towns want stamped drawings regardless, as a form of protection and indemnification for the town officials. I find this last one odd because they are already indemnified at least personally, by law, with exceptions for egregious conduct.0
