red dye stains on chimneys?

but no one can tell me why this all started when the dye did, but stained chimneys, ventcaps and liners are FOR REAL.

    red oil dye stains on chimneys?

    I searched but couldn't find a thread on this-- does anyone have any proof the red stains commonly seen on chimneys serving oil appliances are caused by the red dye? Why isn't the dye oxidized during combustion?

    Is this just urban legend and if so, then we're back to square one, what is causing this? Not rust or creosote.
