Carol, what is best for a one pipe steam system ? digital or traditional, setback or constant . and which model would you specify. thank you

    So far as your steam system goes, it doesn't matter whether you use a digital or electro-mechanical thermostat. I like digital best. Whichever thermostat you use, you may want to adjust the cycle rate for steam. Do you know the "cycle rate" you're currently using? The industry standard for steam is 1 cycle per hour. For a digital stat, using the instruction sheet for cycle rate, select that option. But if you don't like the way it performs, you can try other cycle rate options until you have the one that suits you best.

    For an electromechanical thermostat, there's an anticipator. If that's what you choose, let me know because the instructions are a little more complex.

    thanks for the quick reply,Carol. is a day - night set back a good idea or is it better to just keep it set at a constant temperature. looking for the answer both comfort vs. energy [ cost ] saving.

    Set backs

    With apologies to Carol for the intrusion, and to the long threads on Dan's site about set backs, many HOs find that living with the lowest comfortable temperature 24/7 works well. That said, if you go away for more than a day, set it back.
